Cooking Classes
Honoring our seeds through the foods we prepare together.
Our cooking classes reconnect community members with traditional Haudenosaunee foods through hands-on learning, shared meals, and cultural teachings. Whether in person or through videos and shared recipes, we invite everyone to learn how to prepare our foods with care and intention.

Why We Do It
Our traditional foods carry more than nutrition—they carry memory, identity, and connection. Cooking together helps us rebuild relationships with our plant relatives, with one another, and with the ways our people nourished themselves and their communities.
These classes support food sovereignty by teaching skills that can be practiced at home, shared across generations, and passed on without dependence on store-bought or processed foods. Learning to pound corn, make Kanʌstóhale (corn bread), hull corn, or prepare dishes like mush, soup, and strawberry drink helps restore our foodways in practical, accessible ways.
At Ukwakhwa, we believe that when our people learn to cook with our own seeds and traditional ingredients, they reclaim stories, ceremonies, and belonging.
